In 1997, Pierre Viot, President of the Cannes Film Festival, decided it was time to redesign the coveted Palme d’Or trophy. He reached out to Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard, who designed a beautiful, light and voluminous version.

Caroline emphasised the veins in the stalk and the regulation of the 19 leaves to capture the leaves caught in mid-sway. The stalk ware designed to end in the shape of a heart, one of Chopard’s signature motifs and the golden palm made to rest on a crystal that resembled an emerald-cut diamond. The new Palme d’Or was a piece of significant beauty, no less. The following year, the Geneva Maison became the official partner to the famed film festival, forging a sparkling partnership and each year, hence, has created exquisite jewellery as part of its Red Carpet collection for the star-studded event.

This year, the Swiss luxury brand swept us off our feet at Cannes with sensual, fascinating Haute Joaillerie Red Carpet designs.  When Caroline turned to her drawing board, she drew upon the beauty and sensuality of the actress for inspiration. An ode to femininity, slender, supple pieces have been picked out in gemstone-accentuated openwork motifs, with 69 fabulous creations to mark the 69th anniversary of the Cannes festival.

A shimmering array of pear-shaped and brilliant cut diamonds, square-cut yellow diamonds, yellow and yellow-orange sapphires, pear-shaped emeralds, rubies, kunzites and amethysts have found their way into this year’s Red Carpet collection that features show-stopper necklaces, coloured gemstone drop earrings, lace patterned diamond necklaces and statement rings. Meanwhile, Chopard’s Journey to Sustainable Luxury marked a new milestone with the brand, fusing its creativity with sustainability and partnering with Gemfields, the world’s leading supplier of coloured gemstones.

Chopard, which has been collaborating with Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) in South America, has scripted a new chapter in this wonderful journey and reiterated its commitment to sustainable luxury. The Maison unveiled a capsule collection of its Green Carpet Haute Joaillerie alongside the Red Carpet jewellery, featuring Gemfields emeralds.
